Match Report Versus Gillens ( 23/2/08) KO 2.00pm Grayfields - Home Gillens rocked Raglan early on when a Paul
Garthwaite long throw was eventually turned into
the net.For much of the first half Raglan had to
defend as the blustery conditions played a part -
Gillens continually pumped the ball over the top
& although they had the lions share of posession -
Raglan were resolute in defence. Two minutes
before the half time whistle - a freakish goal
gave Gillens a two goal cushion. Peter Gale
kicked from his own area, and a mix up between
centre backs & goalkeeper led to the ball
bouncing over them & into the Raglan net.
H-T 0-2
This two goal deficit proved too much for Raglan -
but they certainly gave it a fine go in the
second half.
On 48 minutes Lee Campbell hit home & it looked
as though Raglan may get back level with the
better of the football coming from them.
They had several chances to pull level but were
found wanting in front of goal on a couple of
occasions. As is the usual with these two teams -
tempers were starting to play a part, & once
again Raglan were on the receiving end of some
interesting refereeing decisions. Raglan were
reduced to 10 men in the last 5 minutes, which
gave them even more of a mountain to climb.
Gillens just about edged this game in the end -
and Raglan need to get the bit between their
collective teeth if they are to remain champions
for a second successive season.
F-T 1-2

|
Is THERE a point to this question ?
Read the report - Peter Gale is THEIR goalkeeper.
Would you like me to spell it out ?
|
no im not having a go at any body i normally
watch raglan every week and thought you might of
turned them over thats all
|
game of one half
gillens came out with all guns blazing scored
with 10 men on the field on their first attack
went two up raglan put up a fight to pull a one
back but as a nuetral supporter gillens missed
several chances to put the game beyond doubt,a
good game all in all good advert for saturday
footie....
|
A mostly fair account of the game Andy - would
you like to write our match report every week ?
Please omit the " good advert for Saturday
footie " though - If both teams played at their
best - then it really would have been a good
advert. However Raglan & Gillens werent on top
form, and the windy conditions definitely
spoiled most of the game. Fair play to Gillens
though, they were a goal better than us.
|
yeah chris; gillens were a goal better than you
the comment i made about a good avert was meant
by a good game played in bad conditions on a
very windy saturday afternoon both teams done
well??? also i thought your line was quiet
without the very commanding stan he gets the
raglan fired right up......
|
You're right
|
Yeah chris you have got to put things right if
youre goin to win another title, what do you
think of the gillens team as a whole
|
They're a good outfit - passionate & skillful.
They always give us a good match. I've watched
them a couple of times when we have'nt had a
game, and they don't seem to put in the same
effort against other opposition. When you're top
of the League - I suppose teams want to beat you.
Gavin Cooper ran the show last week, once again
Garter proved to be a thorn in our side with his
long throws - to be honest - we never really
showed our potential, and I know we always bang
on about him, but Mark Henderson was a big miss
for us again. About putting things right though -
we've still only been beaten 4 times this
season - that's the best record in our League by
far. If we were to win EVERY match - their would
be no point us being in the League. That's not
to say I'm not disappointed with our
performances of late.
|
Whats happend to nosh get im back in the team?
Its going to be a battle for the title and you
need someone with grit and determination.100%
every time he was given the chance .
|
You're right about Nosh. Unfortunately for us
though - his personal circumstances have changed.
