Millennium Shield V Select Team ( Grayfields ) 31st May 2008
Raglan retained the Millennium Shield when they scored 4 first half goals against a strong select team. Glen Kilby had his select team fired up, and it was they who started the better, playing some good stuff but lacking a bit in front of goal. Against the run of play Raglan took the lead when Shaun Atkinsons determination to win the ball - saw him fire home on 10 minutes. Robbie Thompson then put in the effort & provided Atkinson with another chance which was dispatched on the 2nd attempt. Clarke went one on one with Graeme Swinbourne in the Raglan net, and Swinbourne saved brilliantly to deny the select team. His resultant clearance found Robbie Thompson who fired home from the edge of the area. Kevin Bennet scored the pick of Raglans goals when he rounded 3/4 players and placed the ball in the bottom corner. H-T 4-0 Raglan continued to attack in the second half & had a few chances to further increase their lead - however they had a goal ruled out for off-side & the opposition keeper saved well on a couple of occasions. It was the select team who scored the goals in the second half, but Raglan had already done enough in the first 45 to give them the win. The 2 goals from the select team gave them a bit of a lift on the day, and considering the team was made up of players from different clubs - they gave Raglan a good game. Thanks must go to Glen Kilby for organising his team & also to the officials for their efforts. Shaun Atkinson & Kevin Bennet were on fire for Raglan, however Colin Taylor proved the pick of the bunch with a brilliant display at the back. The man of the match award was shared between Raglans Colin Taylor & the select teams Ian Sanderson. League Secretary Alan Thompson once again was on hand to oversee matters & his time & effort is very appreciated by the clubs in the league. F-T 4-2
